Dear fellow Provincial Administrators, Officials and Players,

It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the Growthpoint National Interprovincial Squash Tournament in Cape Town from Sunday 07 July to Friday 12 July 2024.

Our organising committee is underway to ensure that this tournament is well run, loads of fun and most importantly, a wonderful experience that will be remembered well into the future.

See you all in Cape Town soon.

DATES AND TIMES FOR THE WEEK

Teams are required to arrive in Cape Town, on time for registration from 14:00 on Sunday 07 July prior to the Captain’s Meeting, which will take place at WPCC, around 18h00.

Team Photographs will take place from 15:00 – 18:00, at WPCC. A schedule will be provided and distributed soon.

Play commences Monday 8 July culminating with the finals on Friday 12 July.

Three arranged events will take place as follows:

  • Sunday 07 July: Opening Function, Kelvin Grove Club
  • Wednesday 10 July: Themed Evening, WPCC (Western Province Cricket Club)
  • Friday 12 July: Closing Ceremony, Kelvin Grove Club

ACCOMMODATION

Southern Sun, our Squash South Africa accommodation partner, has set aside excellent Bed and Breakfast Accommodation rates for each province to book on a first come, first serve basis:

Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard and Southern Sun Newlands are the preferred accommodation hotels. Teams can contact them directly to arrange team accommodation, showing our support for Southern Sun. Please note Cape Town is extremely busy in July this year, with the World Rugby U20 Championships taking place (29 June – 19 July).

We cannot stress enough that accommodation will need to be booked asap, in order to facilitate your teams.

MEALS

A light dinner will be provided at the Opening and Themed evening and a sit-down meal for the Closing function.

IPT LEVY

The Tournament Levy will be R1650:00 per player. All other costs such as non-player, guardian, event & guests to be confirmed shortly.

COURT VENUES

The squash complexes used during the course of the week will be spread evenly across the Peninsula, Southern and Northern Suburbs, and are within easy access from the accommodation referred to above. There will be practice courts available on Saturday and Sunday for early arrivals. Bookings are essential and a booking sheet will be provided nearer to the time.
The ball to be used will be the Dunlop Pro Squash Ball (double yellow dot).

TRANSPORT

Teams will be responsible for their own transport to Cape Town and to the venues for the duration of the IPT.

Cape Town International Airport is 15km away from WPCC, an approximate 30 minute drive. Please take this into consideration when planning any flights and travel before and after the week.

Airport transfers are not possible though the Association or SA Squash. Own arrangements will be required.

GUARDIANSHIP AND U18 SELECTED PLAYERS

Please refer to the Squash South Africa Policy below.
Paragraph 7.12 of the 2023 Growthpoint Interprovincial Championships Rules.
Should an Association wish to select a player under the age of 18, they must apply in writing to SSA, motivating the selection and providing written permission from the parent or guardian as well as the name of the designated person/parent/guardian, who shall chaperone NO MORE THAN 6 players and ensure that the SSA Safeguarding policy is applied in full, 6 weeks prior to the tournament. All additional costs must be covered by the Association. This designated person/parent/guardian cannot participate in the tournament as a player or team member. U18’s and U16’s are not permitted to drink any alcoholic beverages or smoke, if this rule is ignored, the player will face immediate expulsion from the tournament, and will also face a minimum of a one year ban from all squash tournaments, including no IPT tournament for the following year, if the dates fall out of the year ban.

PROVINCIAL REFEREE’S

Each association is required to nominate a provincial referee to participate during the week. Information regarding submitting this information will be sent in the next newsletter.
